Guide to the Lake Garda
Lake Garda
Lake Garda is the largest freshwater reservoir in Italy, which you will discover on the way from Brescia to Verona, an hour and a half by car from Milan. The surface area of Lake Garda is 370 square kilometers; it is hidden among the beautiful Alps, and because of the glaciers, the water in the lake has a slightly emerald shade.
The landscapes you will see here cannot be found anywhere else. Lake Garda is very popular among tourists because, in addition to the picturesque views of the lake itself and the surrounding area, there is excellent infrastructure here—the reservoir is surrounded by nature reserves and botanical gardens, architectural monuments, museums, theaters, and beautiful beaches.
Along the shore lie ancient towns and villages, a significant part of which were founded during the existence of the Roman Empire. Here you will find several dozen sites that are part of UNESCO heritage.
The Lake Garda area enjoys a Mediterranean microclimate: in summer the air temperature reaches +28 degrees, and there is no scorching heat. The water temperature in the lake in the summer months is about +27 degrees. Overall, the climatic conditions in this place are favorable for tourists to spend an unforgettable vacation here, improve their health, and relax. For this reason, the most popular sanatoriums and health centers, thermal clinics, and world-famous hotels have been built here.
Beaches on Lake Garda deserve special attention. They stretch for several kilometers and are no less comfortable than Italy’s seaside beaches. The swimming season on Lake Garda begins in May and lasts until September. The beaches here are sandy and pebbly; access in most cases is free, and they are well equipped with everything you need—some offer sports equipment for rent and have places selling drinks and snacks.
Among the attractions located in the Lake Garda area, we recommend seeing the Il Castello palace, the Vittoriale degli Italiani war memorial, the rock hollows in Nago Park, and also be sure to visit the true citrus paradise of Limone sul Garda, a Venetian-style villa located on Garda Island.
Lake Garda is a wonderful place for shopping, because in every village on the shore there are many boutiques and stores. Various fairs are often held here, where local wine, fresh fruit, handicrafts, souvenirs, and other goods are sold. In addition, from here you can travel to Milan for shopping.
The Lake Garda region is ideal for families. There are many theme parks here that are interesting for both children and adults. These include water-activity parks, a safari park, a ropes course park, and much more.
And, of course, as we noted from the very beginning, many people come to Lake Garda to improve their health thanks to the thermal springs here.
Finally, at Lake Garda, everyone will be able to do sports—both amateurs and professionals.
