Paphos guide
Pathos is located in the south-western part of Cyprus. Most residents speak Greek, others speak Turkish. The resort is divided into two parts – Upper Pathos and Lower Pathos. In Upper Pathos you will find the city’s administrative institutions, while Lower Pathos is the area that is of great interest to travelers: this is where the city’s main attractions are located, along with souvenir shops, hotels, cafés, restaurants, and discos.
In Pathos, many places are connected to the goddess Aphrodite: if we turn to Greek myths, we can learn that long ago, on the beach “Roman Rock”, the goddess of love and beauty herself emerged from the sea foam.
Pathos is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list, and in 2017 it was named the cultural capital of the European continent.
While walking around Pathos, be sure to visit Aphrodite’s Bath, the temple of the goddess that has been preserved to this day. After that, head to Aphrodite’s Bay, where you will have the opportunity to swim and explore the local beauty.
In Pathos there are interesting museums that we recommend visiting – the Paleo Pathos Archaeological Museum, the Catacombs of Saint Solomonia, the Royal Tombs, the House of Dionysus. Not far from Pathos is the Monastery of Saint Neophytos the Recluse – very beautiful, and there is also a museum here, located in rock cells. Be sure to go to the Monastery of the Holy Virgin Kykkos, where the church and the research center operate. By the way, in this church there is an icon painted by the Apostle Luke - the Virgin Mary.
Besides attractions, Pathos also offers plenty of entertainment – there are many entertainment clubs and various venues. We also suggest visiting the Akamas reserve and the Hritos Hristofor Bird and Animal Park – this place is famous for an incredible show featuring birds.
In Pathos you have the Afrodita water park at your disposal. Diving enthusiasts know that Pathos is a paradise for them: there are superb places for diving and exploring the seabed. Experienced divers can enter underwater caves located at a depth of forty meters.
