Features of a ski holiday in Pamporovo
Pamporovo is the southernmost European resort in Bulgaria, located at the foot of Snezhanka (1926 m), which is part of the Rhodope Mountains range. For more than half a century, tourists have been attracted by the warm weather (300 days a year), the abundance of snow and the region’s mild climate thanks to its proximity to the Aegean Sea. Another reason for the popularity of winter holidays in the Rhodope pine forests is the negatively ionized air, which has a beneficial effect on health. Legends say that these snow-covered mountains heard the legendary voice of Orpheus, and today Pamporovo is the second-largest winter holiday center in Bulgaria with well-developed tourist infrastructure. It is especially crowded during the skiing period: in Pamporovo the season starts in December and lasts until mid-April.
Ideal slopes for beginners and professionals
Pamporovo Ski Resort (Bulgaria) stands out for its gentle slope, which is convenient for beginner athletes. However, the vast majority of the runs suit intermediate skiers: the resort has 8 pistes with a total length of 29,6 km (of which 17,6 km are blue (for beginners), 6,5 km are red (intermediate level), 5,5 km are black (for experienced skiers). There are pistes for giant slalom, night skiing, ski races and descents on untouched snow. The main pistes start from the Snezhanka peak and lie between the 1926 m and 1450 m marks. At the tourists’ disposal in Pamporovo are 10700 m of cableways and modern lifts, with a capacity of 8500 passengers per hour.
In addition, Pamporovo is a favorite resort for snowboard lovers; all conditions for riding are created here: from special areas and equipment rental to a snowboard school, where training is available from the age of 4.
Equipment rental and Skipass
Skipass (access to the lifts) can be purchased: at the hotel, online, at the ski school. Its price can also be included in the equipment rental. The best value Skipass is for several days or as a package with ski (snowboard) rental. For example, only a Skipass for 2 days will cost 75 euros, while renting “skis + boots + Skipass” will cost 85 euros. However, for 6 days the price is even better – 202 (with rental – 216) euros. There are discounts for children and seniors; additionally, you can also pay for lessons with an instructor.
