Advantages and features of a beach holiday in Ksamil
Tourists from Moldova have explored Albania only a little. But time passes, travel experience grows, and people dream of variety. On the other hand, in the Balkans there are truly many places of exceptional beauty, yet less famous for a beach holiday. Probably, services here are not as developed as in well-known destinations. Even the country falters with the contrast of poverty and luxury. But it is certain that the landscapes here do not уступают the Caribbean or the Bahamas, at a democratic price – as visitors to the country report.
Ksamil is one of the best-known Albanian resorts in Moldova. It is located practically on the border with Greece (8 km to the border checkpoint, and only 2 km to the island of Corfu). Although only a few thousand people live here, the infrastructure is quite developed: for accommodation in a hotel in Ksamil you can choose from 2 to 5 stars, camping, or private lodging. As a rule, hotels offer apartments with a kitchen. Hostels are absent.
There are many cafés, restaurants, bars, and night clubs here. In the summer season, the population of the town increases 2-3 times thanks to travelers.
Albania Coast - Ksamil
It is considered that the local beaches are the most picturesque in this region. Usually, tourists come here specifically for a beach holiday. On the beaches there are pebbles and sand, white or golden.
In this location there is a large beach, Sunset Beach, with a length of 440 meters, and another ten beaches located in small bays. Over two weeks you can swim in different places, and over the classic 8 days/7 nights a few coastal spots will remain unexplored.
The beaches have free access, but umbrellas and sun loungers are paid.
Ksamil - the sea
The water here is amazing, clear down to a depth of 30 meters. There are four small islands here (which proudly bear the name of the archipelago Tetranisit Islands), which you can reach by boat or rented catamaran. You can swim to them – it is 80 meters to the nearest island. Conifers grow on the islands and there is also a restaurant.
Air temperature in season is up to 35 degrees in July, and water temperature is up to 30 degrees Celsius.
In the water you will find a great variety of tropical fish, therefore snorkeling is popular here.
The beach season opens in June and lasts until September. But the “velvet season” continues until October. Daytime is +25, night +18, sea water +23°C.
Useful tip
In season, people come here who fully know the excellence of this place: Germans, Greeks, even Albanians. From June to September an enormous number of tourists spend their vacation here; it is difficult to find a free spot on the beach, therefore it is desirable to book accommodation in advance.
How do you get there?
By car from Tirana. There are two options: via Gjirokastra; or along the coast, the SH8 route through Vlore, the Llogara pass and Himare. The second route is much more scenic.
By bus. There is no direct service: go to Saranda (5-6 hours, 12 euros) and from there about 20 minutes to Ksamil (1 euro).
