Accommodation tips in Barcelona. How to choose the hotel location

Arriving in Barcelona, tourists try to stay in hotels that, first of all, won’t be too expensive and, second, are located close to the city’s main attractions.

In this regard, we recommend considering hotels located in the Old Town, which is also the center of Barcelona. This is where you’ll find the famous Gothic Quarter, the El Raval district, and the Barceloneta area, known for its beautiful beaches.

The Gothic Quarter is Barcelona’s main attraction, because this is where the places tourists should visit first are concentrated. In the El Raval district you will find a large number of restaurants, salons, and galleries.

Pay attention to hotels that are located in the La Ribera district or near it.

In central Barcelona there are quite affordable hotels that, at the same time, offer all the conditions needed for a comfortable stay. That is, in the three-star hotels that are ready to welcome you and accommodate you in central Barcelona, you will find not only a bed, a table, and a bedside table, but, for example, air conditioning, a bathroom, etc.

Travel Guide to Barcelona

How to get there

Flights and holidays to Barcelona from Chișinău and Iași

We help you organise both short city breaks and full holidays to Barcelona with departures from Chișinău and Iași. You can book your trip at Admiral.Travel offices or online via our search engine.

Standard packages usually include between 3 and 7 nights of accommodation — enough time to see the main sights and, if you wish, to combine city exploring with beach time.

The flight takes about 3 hours, and thanks to low-cost and regular airlines, we can find convenient options for you in terms of both schedule and price.

The season for visiting Barcelona practically runs all year round: spring and autumn are great for sightseeing, while for beach holidays most travellers choose the period from May to October.

You can check our latest tour and hotel offers on the dedicated page: see all tours to Barcelona.

What your Barcelona package usually includes

Direct flight Chișinău / Iași – Barcelona (≈ 3 hours); meal on board according to airline policy.

Group transfer APT→hotel.

Accommodation in carefully selected Barcelona hotels (3*–5*).

Recommended meal plan (breakfast + dinner / half board).

Medical insurance for the entire trip.

Flights Chișinău / Iași – Barcelona and airport transfers

Flights Chișinău - Barcelona are operated by the airlines Wizz Air, FlyOne and Air Moldova.

You can also fly from Iași with Wizz Air.

The duration of a flight is 3 hours.

During promotions, the ticket price can drop to 9€ one way! Details about purchasing tickets can be found in our search engine.

There are several ways to get from the airport to the centre of Barcelona:

Available option – the train

You can reach the centre of Barcelona by train – Renfe.com offers you this option. The train departs towards Barcelona from terminal T2 and runs every half hour. You can buy a ticket right at the entrance to the platform.

Aerobus

Aerobuses are blue buses that run from the airport to the centre of Barcelona. The first bus leaves at 6 in the morning. The ticket can be bought from the driver. You will find the bus stop if you walk through the arrivals area straight ahead towards the exit on the right and then go down the escalator.

Regular buses

This is a fairly economical way to get from the airport to the centre of Barcelona. The bus stop is located very close to the airport, the fare is relatively low and the service runs around the clock. Tickets can be purchased from a special ticket machine located right at the bus stop or in the metro – you will have to pay about three euros.

Metro

An affordable option that can be used from five in the morning until midnight. On Saturdays you can get to the centre of Barcelona by metro at any time of day. Trains on line L9 run every seven minutes. Still, the trip by metro to the centre of Barcelona is not the most advantageous one – the T-Casual ticket is not valid and you will have to buy a separate ticket at the price of 4.5 euros.

Transfers from Barcelona airport to the hotel can be arranged by shuttle bus. This is very convenient, as you will be taken as close as possible to the hotel.

The cost of this service is 25 EUR per person (round trip).

We will also help you find the best transfers in and around Barcelona. To get the information you need, please contact our managers.

Entry and visa rules for Barcelona

For holidays in Barcelona (Spain), citizens of European Union countries, including Romania, can enter without a visa (with a valid passport or ID card), while travellers from other states such as Moldova, Ukraine or Russia generally need a valid Schengen visa. We recommend checking the current entry requirements before your trip.

Frequently asked questions about holidays in Barcelona

What is the best time of year to visit Barcelona?

Barcelona is a great city-break destination almost all year round. Spring and autumn are ideal for sightseeing thanks to pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds, while for beach holidays most travellers choose the period from May to October.

Do I need a visa to travel to Barcelona?

Citizens of EU countries, including Romania, do not need a visa to enter Spain. Travellers from other countries such as Moldova, Ukraine or Russia usually require a valid Schengen visa, so it is important to check the latest rules before booking.

What currency is used and how can I pay in Barcelona?

The official currency is the euro. Bank cards are widely accepted in hotels, shops and restaurants, but it is handy to have some cash for public transport tickets, markets and small cafés.

What meal plan is recommended for a city break in Barcelona?

For shorter trips we recommend at least breakfast included, so you can start each day comfortably. If you prefer to return to the same hotel every evening, half board (breakfast and dinner) is also a very convenient option.

What is the easiest way to get from the airport to the city centre?

You can reach the city centre by train, Aerobus, regular bus or metro, as described above. For maximum comfort, we can pre-book a group or private transfer for you, so you are taken directly to your hotel.

Is Barcelona suitable for a family holiday with children?

Yes, Barcelona is very family-friendly: wide beaches with gentle entry into the sea, parks, the zoo, aquarium and many interactive museums. We can recommend family-oriented hotels and activities tailored to the ages of your children.

What kind of travel insurance do I need for Barcelona?

We recommend medical travel insurance covering consultations, treatment and possible hospitalisation, and ideally trip-cancellation insurance as well, in case you need to cancel or change your plans for legitimate reasons.

Are there local tourist taxes in Barcelona?

Yes, Barcelona charges a local tourist tax, usually paid directly at the hotel or apartment. The amount depends on the category of your accommodation and may change over time, so we recommend checking the current level when booking.

How is the internet and what about SIM cards in Barcelona?

Most hotels, cafés and restaurants offer free Wi-Fi. You can use roaming from your home operator or buy a local SIM/eSIM if you plan to use a lot of mobile data for navigation and social media.

Is Barcelona a safe city for tourists?

Overall Barcelona is a safe city, but like in any busy tourist area, pickpocketing can occur. Keep your documents and money in a secure place and avoid leaving valuables unattended on the beach or at café tables.

What can I do if it rains for a few days in a row?

On rainy days you can visit museums, the aquarium, shopping centres and the historic districts, or enjoy long lunches and dinners in local restaurants and tapas bars. Barcelona offers plenty to do beyond the beach.

What are the usual check-in and check-out times at hotels?

Most hotels in Barcelona offer check-in from around 14:00–15:00 and check-out until about 11:00–12:00. Exact times vary by property, and our Admiral.Travel managers will confirm these details for your chosen hotel.
