Lake Balaton

Lake Balaton is located in the western part of Hungary, is the largest in the entire country and in all of Central Europe. Very often one hears how this body of water is called the “Hungarian Sea”. The depth of Lake Balaton is relatively small - about 3.6 meters, but ships sail on it, commercial fishing is carried out.

A resort area has been developed around Lake Balaton, which is very popular with tourists not only from countries neighboring Hungary, but also from other countries, and not only European ones. Lake Balaton is a great place for an active family holiday. Here you can go fishing, surfing, rowing, water skiing. In addition, this resort is good because people also come here to restore their health - as you understand, Balaton is also a medical resort.

Since the lake is shallow, in the summer months its waters warm up very quickly and well - their temperature reaches +26 degrees Celsius. The southern coast of the lake has a whole strip of sandy beaches, where a large number of vacationers gather every season. The northern coast is famous for its beautiful landscapes - there are mountain ranges, orchards and vineyards grow here, and the ruins of ancient fortresses that have survived to this day attract the attention of travelers.

The hallmark of Lake Balaton is the Tihany Peninsula. Interestingly, there are two more lakes on the peninsula - External and Internal, they are also shallow, they are surrounded by dormant geysers and reeds with reeds.

On the Tihany peninsula is the Benedictine abbey of St. Anyosha. This is the oldest monastery in Hungary, which was founded in the XI century.
