Advantages and features of a beach holiday in Kefalonia
This amazing Greek island has a wide range of beaches to suit all tastes. There are many sandy beaches here, the features of which attract guests with children. The line of the depth of the coast goes under the water gradually, which allows you to safely swim in the sea, which heats up very quickly. Consider the most visited coastal recreation areas.
For example, Petani Beach is considered one of the most popular tourist destinations. Cozy bays, calm water surface. The most comfortable entrance to the sea is in the central part of Petani, where there is a small tavern and a number of apartments for settlement.
Next you can visit the beaches in Skala. Their area stretched out with a wide long coastal strip. The perimeter of the area lies both on the plains and goes under the rocky massifs, overgrown with pines. The sand is soft, with fine stone chips. You can dive into the water gradually and safely. Almost all the time there is calm.
Booking a tour is also recommended for holidays in the northern part of Kefalonia. For example, Emblisi Beach is not very easy to get to because of the rather steep serpentine. However, the results are worth it. Small pebbles spread along the bottom are covered with transparent water azure, a quiet and calm atmosphere. However, here the coastline ends quite abruptly with the boundary of stone slabs, forming a kind of amphitheater.
The neighboring beach of Foki ends with a deep bay and reveals all the variety of olive plantations. The air here is very clean thanks to the dense pine forest and cypress thickets.
The western coast of Kefalonia will delight extreme tourists with Mitros Beach. This is a wild area, without the possibility of renting umbrellas and sunbeds. The coastline is quite extensive, but some parts of it are unsafe after the earthquake that happened here in 2015. The surface of the beach is quite smooth, consisting of small pebbles and white sand. However, the underwater relief is not so pleasant - it is strewn with rather large stone fragments.

Kefalonia travel guide
Guests of the island are invited to start exploring local attractions from the center of the capital - the city of Argostoli. This settlement was completely restored after a large-scale earthquake in 1953. The list of the most visited cultural sites includes the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum, as well as the ancient library of Koryalenios. Pilgrims are invited to look into the cave of Katavothres, where the patron saint of the Greek island Gerasimos once lived as a hermit.
The second largest city of Lixouri is famous for the castle of Iacobates erected here, where several libraries are located. Near this settlement, you can admire the ancient ruins of ancient Pali.
The well-known fishing harbor of Fiskardo was not damaged by the earthquake, which is why here you can get acquainted with the original buildings of ancient Greek architecture.
The ancient ruins of Sami, the second largest island resort, can be admired from the adjoining promenade.
Fans of boat trips are invited to visit the Melissan Cave, inside of which there is a small reservoir.
Also worth noting is Lake Avithos, known for its unimaginable depth. Nearby is the Drongorati cave, the walls of which are strewn with stalactites, reaching a length of more than 300 meters. Also interesting from the point of view of cultural heritage is the fortress of St. George, built over the plain of Livafu. The ruins of the medieval island capital are scattered around this building.
