Advantages and features of a beach holiday in Lefkada
As already mentioned, the island of Lefkada is famous for its magnificent beaches, many of which have been recognized as one of the best in the world.
One of the most popular beaches is Porto Katsiki - it is located on the southeast coast and has good infrastructure. The downside of this beach is crowded and, accordingly, noise.
Egremni Beach, on the contrary, has a calm atmosphere, it is located in a secluded place.
Kathisma Beach has soft sand and clear water that changes color depending on the weather. This beach is well equipped, here you will have the opportunity to rent a sunbed and an umbrella, go in for water sports, which are represented in this place by a wide variety of species. There is a car park near the coast.
One of the best beaches in Lefkada is Nydri - here you will find soft sand, clear water and well-developed infrastructure. There are many hotels, restaurants, as well as shops, pharmacies and ATMs.
Kiting enthusiasts should pay attention to the beach called Agios Ioannis. It is covered with white sand mixed with pebbles. The water in the sea has a turquoise hue. The disadvantage of this beach is that there is no shade and a strong wind blows.
The main attraction of Lefkada is the white mountains, and the name of the island itself is translated into Russian as “white”. The largest city of the island is Lefkada, which is located in the northeast, and it is here that the main attractions of these places are located.
Walking around the island, you can visit Kariya, one of the most beautiful settlements in these places, where you will get closer to the traditions and customs of the people who live here. You will be shown hand embroidery that will definitely amaze you.
Go to the village called Nydri, which is very popular with many tourists. Here you will find a large number of bars, restaurants and nightclubs. And if you love water sports, then Nydri is the place where you can realize your desires in this direction.
On the island of Lefkada there is a guard fortress, which was built in 1300. It is called Santa Mavra, and its purpose was to protect against pirates - this mission it carried out until 1684. Until now, cast-iron cannons stand near the walls of the fortress. In addition, there is a small temple in the fortress, which houses the icon of St. Maura.
Also visit the Archaeological Museum, which displays exhibits that tell visitors the entire 40-century history of the island.
We recommend you take a walk to the Akonis waterfall and visit the Gira area, where you will see four windmills (previously there were twelve).
Every year, a folklore festival is held on the island of Lefkada, which demonstrates dance numbers, folk music, and various craft traditions. The Folklore Festival is held here in August.
How to get there?
To get to Lefkada, we recommend the following route:
First we go by bus to Bucharest, from where in the summer season you can fly directly to Preveza Airport. Once in Preveza, you will need to get to the island of Lefkada itself, which will take you about 20 minutes to 1.5 hours in time - it all depends on the resort you are going to.
