The 2026–2027 ski season is taking shape, and choosing a resort should not be based only on snowy photographs or the price of the hotel. In reality, the budget of a ski holiday is influenced by the ski pass, distance from the hotel to the lifts, transport to the slopes, equipment rental, ski school, meals on the mountain and the travel period. In this Admiral.Travel selection we compare four very different directions: Austria, Bulgaria, Romania and Andorra. Austria is suitable for travellers looking for Alpine infrastructure and large ski areas, Bulgaria remains interesting for its balance between cost and experience, Romania is practical for shorter winter breaks, while Andorra combines skiing in the Pyrenees with shopping, gastronomy and a lively holiday atmosphere. If you are looking for offers in the destination country, tour packages in the destination country, ski holidays from Chișinău or a ski holiday 2026–2027, compare the total cost of the trip rather than accommodation alone. Prices in this guide were checked on 26 August 2026. For resorts that had not yet published their 2026–2027 tariffs, prices from the previous season are used only as a reference and should be checked again before booking. A six-day ski pass may have a lower average price per day, but it is not automatically the right choice if your plans include a spa day, shopping, a city break or only four actual days of skiing. Suitable for families, groups and travellers planning their first complete ski holiday. Practical for weekends, three or four-day stays and decisions closer to departure. Skiing combined with shopping, restaurants, spa and a city-break atmosphere. Select the profile that best matches your plans. Sölden is one of the solid options for skiers who place skiing at the centre of their holiday. The 2026–2027 winter season is scheduled between 12 November 2026 and 18 April 2027, while glacier areas may allow skiing outside the main season when conditions permit. It is particularly suitable for intermediate and advanced skiers, although there are also areas for beginners. If you ski for five or six hours a day and value well-developed infrastructure, the investment in a stay here can make more sense than for someone who intends to spend only a few hours on the slopes. Online tariffs purchased in advance may be more attractive. The published adult reference is €81 in the pre-season, €84.50 in the main season and €86.50 during peak periods. Innsbruck is different from a classic ski resort. You stay in a real city with restaurants, museums and urban life, while in the morning you can head towards one of the surrounding ski areas. The Ski plus City Pass costs €162 for two days, €223 for three days and €386 for six days in the October 2026–April 2027 season. Do not automatically pay for six skiing days if you know that you also want a full day in Innsbruck. Compare the pass with your actual holiday schedule. Bad Gastein is suitable for travellers who want more than skiing. The area is part of the Ski amadé system, while the resort is also known for its thermal component. It can be a good choice for couples and mixed groups where some people ski while others prefer spa time, walks and the atmosphere of an Alpine resort. For 2026–2027, Ski amadé maintains a dynamic pricing model, so the time of purchase may influence the final ski-pass price. Sölden, St Anton, Kitzbühel and many other areas are located in Tyrol, but their ski-pass systems and distances to the lifts differ. When comparing two hotels described as being “in Tyrol”, check which ski area each hotel serves and the real travel time to the gondola. Bulgaria remains an interesting option for travellers who want six or seven days in the mountains without the cost of a comparable Alpine holiday. Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo, however, have different personalities. Bansko is suitable for groups of friends, couples, families and travellers who also want restaurants or après-ski after the lifts close. During the main 2025–2026 season, the official ski pass cost €59 for one day, €285 for five days and €341 for six days. The 2026–2027 tariffs should be checked again after publication. During busy periods, it can help to be ready before the gondola opens. Also check the exact time of the first hotel shuttle and where it stops. Borovets has the advantage of being relatively compact and may be easier to understand for someone who does not want to spend the first day learning how to navigate an enormous ski domain. The final 2026–2027 tariff should be checked before booking. As a budgeting reference, the latest available information suggests approximately €50–55 for one adult day. If the system in use allows a rechargeable KeyCard, keep it after your stay. It may simplify future ski-pass purchases. Pamporovo is suitable for travellers who are not necessarily looking for the most difficult pistes, but rather for a relaxed ski holiday, lessons and gradual progress on snow. Under the standard 2025–2026 tariff, an adult paid €49 for one day, €220 for five days and €262 for six days. If your first day is spent entirely in a beginner area, check whether you actually need a full ski pass or whether a simpler beginner product is available. For a first ski trip, straightforward access to ski school, gentle slopes, convenient transport and the ability to return quickly to the hotel may matter more than the total number of kilometres in the ski area. Romania's main advantage is flexibility. You do not necessarily have to reserve an entire week. You can organise two or three days of skiing and monitor the forecast before departure. Weather and crowd levels can, however, significantly influence the experience. During the 2025–2026 season, the adult ski pass cost 240 RON for one day, 400 RON for two days and 900 RON for six days. If you arrive in Poiana Brasov around midday, do not automatically buy a full-day ski pass. A pass for several hours or an afternoon product may be more suitable. Being described as “in Poiana Brasov” does not automatically mean that the hotel is next to the gondola. Check the real distance and whether the property provides a shuttle. Sinaia has a different profile because the ski area reaches the Cota 2000 zone. The pistes extend between Cota 1000 and Cota 2000, including Valea Dorului and Valea Soarelui. The adult reference tariff is 210 RON for a Monday–Friday day and 230 RON during the weekend, with shorter-duration options also available. Check lift information and conditions at altitude before heading up. Weather in central Sinaia is not always the same as conditions at Cota 2000. Sovata is more suitable for relaxation, wellness and winter activities than for a traveller whose priority is six days of intensive skiing. For a mixed group, that difference can actually become an advantage. The Grandvalira 2026–2027 season is scheduled between 4 December 2026 and 4 April 2027, depending on weather conditions. Grandvalira, Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís are integrated into different products, while daily prices may be dynamic. Pas de la Casa is one of the practical choices if proximity to the slopes is a priority. It forms part of Grandvalira and is particularly suitable for travellers who want to ski every day. Grandvalira uses dynamic pricing, so the time of purchase may influence the final ski-pass cost. If your holiday dates are fixed, monitor the online price in advance. In a dynamic system, waiting does not necessarily result in a lower price. Pal Arinsal is positioned as an area suitable for families and offers approximately 63 km of ski terrain. Nord Pass is available for the 2026–2027 season, and for a stay of several days it is useful to compare dynamic multi-day options. Half-day options may also be available and can be useful for the first skiing day, beginners or programmes that include other activities. Andorra la Vella is the capital of the country, not a ski resort with pistes directly outside the hotel. It may be suitable if restaurants, shopping, spa facilities and a varied evening programme matter to you, but in the morning you need to travel towards the ski area. If you want a holiday that is part skiing, part city break and relaxation, Andorra la Vella may be more interesting than accommodation directly beside a piste. For many of the destinations analysed, the second half of January and the month of March may offer an interesting balance between snow, prices and crowd levels. On a normal beach holiday, the difference between a hotel located 300 metres and one 1.5 km from the beach may be manageable. On a ski holiday, with ski boots, skis, helmet and possibly children, that distance feels very different. A 3-star hotel five minutes from a lift may be more practical than a 4-star property where you depend on a car or shuttle every morning. For someone who skis only one week per year, renting is often the simpler option. You avoid transporting skis, possible airline equipment fees and storage. Ski boots can be the exception many intermediate skiers discover over time. A well-fitted pair adapted to your feet can influence comfort more than the exact model of skis. Sölden is one of the solid options for altitude, infrastructure and many hours on the slopes. Innsbruck is interesting when you want to combine skiing days with restaurants and city life. Bad Gastein has the advantage of a holiday where relaxation can be as important as skiing. Bansko is worth considering for the relationship between total holiday cost and overall experience. Pamporovo, Borovets and Arinsal are suitable for a more relaxed pace and gradual progression. Poiana Brasov and Sinaia are practical when you want a shorter and more flexible winter stay. Depending on the package, the route may involve a flight, coach, individual transport or a combination of air travel and ground transfer. Total travel time depends on the destination, route, transport type, possible connections, transfer, traffic and winter conditions. Bulgaria remains one of the interesting options for a complete ski stay. During the 2025–2026 season, the adult ski pass cost €49 per day in Pamporovo and €59 per day in Bansko. The 2026–2027 tariffs should be checked again once published. Pamporovo, Borovets and Pal Arinsal are suitable options for beginners and families. In Romania, Poiana Brasov can also be considered. Sölden is one of the obvious options in this guide because of its altitude, infrastructure and variety of terrain. Bansko and Grandvalira may also provide options for several skiing days. Avoiding Christmas, New Year and major school holidays may reduce pressure on accommodation and crowd levels. January after the festive period and selected weeks in March can be interesting.
